How the hourly to salary converter works
Enter your hourly rate, how many hours you work each week, and how many weeks a year you work. The converter multiplies them together for your annual salary, then divides it down into monthly, biweekly, weekly and daily figures. Three inputs, instant answers — no tax, no deductions, just the pure time-for-money maths.
The formulas behind the conversion
- Annual salary = hourly rate × hours per week × weeks per year
- Monthly = annual ÷ 12
- Biweekly = hourly rate × hours per week × 2
- Weekly = hourly rate × hours per week
- Daily = weekly ÷ 5
A standard full-time schedule of 40 hours a week for 52 weeks gives 2,080 working hours a year. So at $25 an hour, that is 25 × 2,080 = $52,000 a year. Part-time at 20 hours a week is exactly half: $26,000.
Full-time vs part-time: what the numbers mean
Hourly rates can be deceptive when hours differ. A $30-an-hour part-time role at 20 hours a week pays $31,200 a year — less than a $20-an-hour full-time role at 40 hours ($41,600). The converter makes these comparisons instant: enter each offer’s rate and hours to see the true annual difference. Remember that full-time roles often add paid leave, health cover and retirement contributions that hourly part-time work may not, so the salary equivalent is only part of the comparison.
Accounting for unpaid time off
Salaried employees are usually paid for 52 weeks, but hourly workers often are not paid for holidays or vacations they take. If you take two unpaid weeks a year, set weeks per year to 50 instead of 52. At $25 an hour and 40 hours a week, that is the difference between $52,000 and $50,000 — a useful reality check when comparing an hourly role with a salaried offer.
Overtime and hourly pay
In many countries, hours beyond the standard week earn a premium — typically time-and-a-half in the US. Whether those extra hours must be paid at 1.5x depends on whether you are entitled to overtime — see our guide to US overtime rules in 2026. If you regularly work 45 hours at $25 an hour with 5 overtime hours at $37.50, your effective weekly pay is (40 × $25) + (5 × $37.50) = $1,187.50, not $1,000. To reflect this in the converter, use a blended hourly rate: divide your typical weekly earnings by your typical hours. For the example above, $1,187.50 ÷ 45 = $26.39 an hour as the blended rate.
Converting salary back to an hourly rate
To go the other way, divide the annual salary by total working hours: hourly rate = annual salary ÷ (hours per week × weeks per year). A $60,000 salary on a 40-hour week is 60,000 ÷ 2,080 = $28.85 an hour. On a 37.5-hour week (common in the UK), the same salary is worth 60,000 ÷ 1,950 = $30.77 an hour — a reminder that shorter weeks make each hour more valuable.
Comparing job offers: a quick checklist
When two offers quote pay differently, run both through the converter before deciding. First, compare annual equivalents on equal weeks — a higher hourly rate on fewer hours can lose to a lower rate on full-time hours. Second, check what is not in the number: paid holidays, sick pay, health insurance, retirement matching and bonuses all have real cash value. Third, ask about overtime rules and how often extra hours actually happen. A $28-an-hour offer at 40 guaranteed hours beats a $32-an-hour offer at 25 unpredictable hours for most budgets, even though the hourly rate looks lower.
Part-year and seasonal work
Seasonal or contract workers can use the weeks-per-year field to model part-year schedules. A summer job at $18 an hour for 12 weeks at 35 hours a week is 18 × 35 × 12 = $7,560 for the season — the converter shows this as the “annual” figure, with monthly and weekly equivalents to help you budget. For contracts quoted as a day rate, multiply by 5 for the weekly equivalent first, then work out the implied hourly rate from your typical hours.
Worked example: $25/hour, full-time
- Annual: $25 × 40 × 52 = $52,000.00
- Monthly: $52,000 ÷ 12 = $4,333.33
- Biweekly: $25 × 40 × 2 = $2,000.00
- Weekly: $25 × 40 = $1,000.00
- Daily: $1,000 ÷ 5 = $200.00

Hourly pay FAQs
How do I convert my hourly wage to an annual salary?
Multiply your hourly rate by hours worked per week, then by weeks worked per year. For example, $25 an hour at 40 hours a week for 52 weeks is 25 x 40 x 52 = $52,000 a year.
How many working hours are in a year?
A standard full-time year is 40 hours x 52 weeks = 2,080 hours. A 37.5-hour week gives 1,950 hours. Part-time schedules scale proportionally – for example, 20 hours a week is 1,040 hours a year.
Should I use 52 weeks if I take unpaid vacation?
No. If you are not paid for time off, reduce the weeks-per-year figure. Two unpaid weeks means using 50 instead of 52, which at $25/hour full-time lowers the annual equivalent from $52,000 to $50,000.
How do I convert a salary back to an hourly rate?
Divide the annual salary by total annual hours: salary ÷ (hours per week x weeks per year). A $60,000 salary at 40 hours/week is 60,000 ÷ 2,080 = $28.85/hour.
Does the converter include tax?
No. The converter shows gross equivalents before income tax and payroll deductions. To see take-home pay, use our country-specific calculators such as the UK take-home pay calculator or the US paycheck calculator.
Is $25 an hour a good wage?
It depends on where you live and your hours. Full-time, $25/hour is $52,000 a year – above the US median individual income. But in high-cost cities, the same wage stretches less far, so always weigh it against local living costs.
